Bauchi Spends N57m on Agric Bauchi From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi Bauchi State Government has ordered the supply of Agro-chemicals and seeds worth over N57 million towards improving agriculture in the and maintaining its status as one of the food baskets of the nation. The state Governor, Dr. Ahmadu Mu'azu who disclosed this yesterday during the launching of the 2004 farming season at Soro, Ganjuwa local government area also revealed that improved maize seed worth over N9.75 million has been purchased and is ready for sale to formers across the State. Mu'azu who noted that agriculture remained the mainstay of the State's economy, also disclosed that for this year's farming season, the state government had ordered for the supply of 10,000 metric tonnes of urea and another 10,000 metric tonnes of NPK fertilizers to be sold to farmers at subsidized rates. According to him, "would like to state here that this farming season, a bag of fertilizer will be sold at N1,500 while the rate for hiring a tractor per day is fixed at N8,000", pointing out that "this kind gesture is intended to assist our farmers to procure the fertilizer at affordable prices and enjoy the service of tractors."
