Germany 2006: Okocha Arrives, Joins Eagles Camp
By Wale Ajimotokan

Super Eagles captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha was billed to arrive Lagos last night aboard a British Airways flight from London.

Okocha's arrival will finally lay to rest all doubts around his availability for this weekends crucial World Cup qualifier against Angola in Luanda.

Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Secretary General Taiwo Ogunjobi told THISDAYSports yesterday that Okocha would join the Eagles training camp at Sango Ota, Ogun State today.

"We are expecting him on Sunday night. He told us he is coming home and will be reporting at Ota on Monday," Ogunjobi said yesterday.

Okochas loyalty to the country has been put to test since he was dramatically excluded by coach Christian Chukwu from the Eagles squad that defeated Rwanda a fortnight ago in a World Cup qualifier after he shunned a pre-qualifier training camp in London.

Though he has since earned a recall to lead the Eagles chase of decisive match points to Luanda at the end of the week, Okocha, according to Kick Off Nigeria snubbed the Eagles in London apparently to sink home his disgust at a personal savings trapped in a second-generation bank. His loss in the transaction is put at $1m (about N140 million).

Okocha's trapped deposits first became an issue during the last Nations Cup campaign in Tunisia in February.

He also got a private audience with President Olusegun Obasanjo who assured him of the safety of his investment when the Nigerian contingent was received in Abuja after finishing third at the African soccer meet.

The Eagles opened their African World qualifying Group 4 account on a bright note with a 2-0 thumping of Rwanda in Abuja and will require their best players against the Palanca Negras who secured a point in their opening match away to Algeria.
