Fresh plot to destabilise Anambra revealed

The Anambra State Government has accused the duo of
Chris Uba and Andy Uba, senior special assistant to the President, of hatching
a fresh plot, using propaganda and violence, to destabilise the administration
of Governor Chris Ngige.
Fred Chukwulobe, senior special assistant to the
governor on Media and Publicity, who made the disclosure in a press statement,
said the plot, which has already kicked off with newspaper and television
propaganda, is having the support of people like Chief Dan Ulasi, Chief Joseph
Okonkwo and Dr Paul Obianaso and others.
The development is coming even as Chief Debo Akande
(SAN), chairman of the Body of Benchers, has risen in condemnation of the
Federal Government’s continued refusal to re-instate the governor’s
security as ordered by the court. “How can you leave a governor open
without security. Apart from the Bar Association, speaking for myself, I
personally think it is not right,” Akande said to Daily Independent in an interview last week.
Chukwulobe said part of the programme of the plot is
to abuse Ngige, level financial misdeeds against him and then apologise to
President Olusegun Obasanjo and Andy Uba for the “insults” they
heaped on them following the events of the July 10, 2003, abduction and the
January 4, 2004, illegal attempt to remove Ngige from office.
“In the first phase of their dastardly plan,
Chief Dan Ulasi, Joseph Okonkwo and Dr Paul Obianaso have appeared on African
Independent Television (AIT) and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) programmes
in unsuccessful attempts to prime the public, particularly the Anambra State
public, that the governor is impervious to reason, negatively stubborn and a
fraudulent person,” Chukwulobe added.
According to the governor’s aide, in the second
phase of the plot, the people plan to unleash violence on the Government House
and the governor’s lodge, both of which have been without police security
since January 4, 2004. The plan, he said, is to use thugs and militiamen imported
from crises-torn parts of the country to attack these government buildings to
water the grounds for the declaration of a state of emergency on the state.
Chukwulobe also alleged that one of the plotters,
Okonkwo, has been mobilised to the tune of N20 million to carry out the
operation, which would climax with the violent elimination of Ngige.
