Ekiti summons contractors over alleged non-performance
From Ifedayo Sayo, Ado-Ekiti

FOR failing to return to site after collecting mobilisation fee, the contractor handling the reconstruction of Ikare-Igbara-Odo Road is to appear before the state executive council (SEC) on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Information, Mr. Kola Ajumobi said Governor Ayo Fayose was unhappy about the failure of the contractor, Messrs Kopek Nigeria Ltd, to commence work on the road "despite several entreaties".

The road contract was awarded by the immediate past administration of Chief Adeniyi Adebayo at a cost of N560 million.

Although the contractor had started work on the project, the decision by the Fayose administration to review all contracts awarded by his predecessor, however, slowed down work on the road.

During the period of the review which lasted about nine months, the contractor reportedly stopped work and moved away from the site.

When the review was over and the government decided to continue with the road project, it then directed the contractor to go back to site and continue work.

However, the statement added that the government vowed not to "close its eyes and allow contractors who fail to perform to expectation to go scot-free".

It further warned that contractors who had been mobilised but who were yet to go back to site, to have a "change of heart" to avoid being blacklisted.
