Marketers sell fuel at N52 in Jos
From Isa Abdulsalami, Jos

ALMOST all the major filling stations in Jos metropolis at the weekend opened to customers but sold fuel at N52 per litre.

To them, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had failed hence, the suspension of its strike. Most managers of filling stations visited by The Guardian said: "The strike has failed, that is why we are selling at this rate. You should know that we are private business people and we want to make gains. We bought these products at exorbitant rates. So, we must also sell at that rate to ensure we have gains".

However, as to what should be done to ensure compliance with the old rate, the Plateau State Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Yusuf Zambuk, said Labour officials would be going to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).

According to Zambuk, "if the filling stations do not want to comply, the regulatory body can force them to do so. We will go there on Monday (today) so that they can intervene to ensure compliance".

On Friday, Zambuk and his team went round major filling stations in Jos and Bukuru to enforce the N38 per litre as ordered by an Abuja Court.

According to him, filling stations located at Babale, Bauchi Ring Road, all on the outskirts of Jos, were earlier forced to sell at N38 per litre.
