FRSC raises panel on housing scheme
From Bethrand Nwankwo, Abuja
TO tackle its staff housing problem, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has inaugurated a seven-man committee to manage its new staff housing co-operative scheme.
A statement signed by Mr. Kayode Olagunju, head of media and publishing said that the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, Major General Anthony Hananiya (rtd) while inaugurating the panel stressed that the measure was aimed at complementing the Federal Government’s policy on housing.
Said he, “the FRSC resolved to look inwards in order to evolve a scheme that will boost staff morale and ensure efficiency in the discharge of their duties.”
Hananiya noted that officers and men of the FRSC have been faced with housing problems over the years, especially those within the urban and highly industrialised cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, among others. He added that the scenario was further compounded by the obsence of the commission’s barracks in these cities.”
The corps marshal observed that the housing problem has forced the FRSC staff to seek accommodation beyond the confines of their work places, thereby affecting their output.
The road safety chief however promised to tackle the staff accommodation problems decisively, charging the committee members to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring fairness in the discharge of their duties.
Among the committee’s terms of reference are, the design and operation of a staff housing co-operative scheme which shall be optional to subscribing staff, liaising with relevant government and private agencies such as the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), real estate developers and also administer the scheme through the construction and allocation of houses to beneficiaries as well as working out payment modalities.
Responding, the committee chairman, Olu Mike Olagunju pledged their commitment and loyalty towards achieving set goals of the housing scheme.
