Adamu urges Benue politicians to eschew bitterness
From Simeon Nwakaudu, Makurdi
NASARAWA State Governor, Abdulahi Adamu, has appealed to the political elite in Benue State to eschew bitterness and violence, and work towards enthroning peace in the state for its development.
Addressing a political rally at the weekend in Katsina-Ala to mark the decampment of former Katsina State Military Administrator, Col. Akaayerger (rtd) from United Nigeria Peoples Party (UNPP) to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu said it was unfortunate that Benue State was experiencing series of political and communal crises.
He urged political leaders in the state not to give "agents of destabilisation" the opportunity to "destroy the state and bring the works of the founding fathers to nought."
His words: "I appeal to you to stand up and say no to those destabilising Benue. Akume will come and go, but Benue State will remain."
He added: "Those who are working towards destabilising Benue State should stop. I advise that forces of instability should not be allowed to destroy this state. We must not allow this to happen."
The governor asserted that anyone destabilising the state is an enemy of the Benue people.
In his address, Akaayerger said he was decamping to the PDP to promote peace in the volatile Benue north-east senatorial district.
He pledged to work for the unification of all political opinions in the senatorial district.
Addressing the rally, the zonal chairman of the PDP in the state, Mr. Mike Boosua, said Akaayerger's decampment was aimed at bringing peace to the crisis-ridden senatorial district.
The rally was attended by Benue State Governor George Akume, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and PDP top notchers in Benue State.
