To JAMB
SIR: I am a JAMB candidate, with Registration Number: 43379007CC and Centre Number: 03050331, who sat for the UME on Saturday May 8, 2004, in Government Secondary School, Anantigha, Calabar.
The first paper, on Use of English, was started late, at 11.30 a.m., and lasted for the stipulated time of 1 hr 15 mins. After that, there was a long delay of about three hours before our next paper started at 3.50p.m. This second paper had an allotted time of two hours 15 minutes (2hrs 15mins), but we were allowed to write for only one hour before we were ordered to stop writing. The reason given by the invigilators was that it was getting too late for them to continue. As a result of this I had to randomly shade my answer sheet in panic.
The supervisors explained that the delay in starting the second paper was due to a mix-up and mistakes made by the headquarters in arranging for our papers.
This is the third time that I am sitting for the UME in a row. In the year 2002, with Registration Number: 23304192HH and candidate Number: 02504161. I sat for my first UME, desiring to read Computer/Electronic Engineering. With a score of 261, I could not gain admission because the school UNICAL, advertised in the JAMB brochure that year, and which I chose as my first choice, turned out not to be offering the course after all.
In the year 2003, with Registration Number: 33012422CF and candidate Number: 02915090, I sat for my second UME, desiring to read Medicine/Surgery. Unfortunately, during the exam proper, despite all protestation, I was issued with a Mathematics question paper in place of Biology, the invigilators claimed that there was a mix-up in the office hence they were supplied with Mathematics rather than a Biology question paper for me. Disorganised by the confusion and not being prepared for the Mathematics exams, I ended up with a score of 232 and no Biology to enable me gain admission into the university.
This year again, I have just suffered another handicap for no fault of mine. I graduated from the Federal Government College Ikom in the year 2002, making the best result in my school that year, with aggregate nine. I am now getting frustrated sitting at home and making no progress.
I pray that you use your good office to offer me an admission to read Electrical/Electronic Engineering in any good university before I commit suicide.
