Tuesday, June 15 2004 Vol 17 No.119 News Editorial Opinion Features Politics Sports Business Money/Market Industry Insurance Energy Cripple holds Wabara hostage PATRICK ODEY, Lafia A MILD drama occurred in Doma, Nasarawa State, as a popular cripple in the area broke protocol and swooped on Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, holding him hostage for several minutes at a public function. Wabara was in Doma to attend thanksgiving of Senator Emmanuel Okpede (Nasarawa South), who represents the area. The stage for the drama was set when the event, held at Doma Central Primary School, ended, and the Senate President, surrounded by a retinue of securitymen, aides and leading personalities, made to enter his car. Daily Champion which was at the event, spotted the cripple who, seizing the auspicious moment, immediately swung into action, evaded protocol and came face to face with Wabara threw himself at Wabara’s feet and held tenaciously to the Senate President demanding that the latter shower him with alms. Even the intervention of the security aides to the Senate President could not deter the cripple from his action until he was given some money. The capacity crowd that thronged the ceremony venue were visibly aroused by the unfolding drama between the Senate president and the cripple. At Senator Okpede’s residence where Chief Wabara and his encourage were hosted to a dinner, there was another drama as the same cripple soon resurfaced, pushing his way and gained entrance into the premises.
