Plateau: Senate May Reconvene Next Week Indications yesterday emerged that the Senate may cut short its eight-week end-of-session break and resume plenary sittings next week. Although the details behind the plan to call back senators are still being kept last night, THISDAY gathered that the Senate would have to resume in order to enable the body make laws for the governance of Plateau State where a state of emergency was recently imposed by President Olusegun Obasanjo. THISDAY further gathered that the inability of the National Assembly to approve the N2.5bn requested by Obasanjo to cushion the effects of the ethno-religious crisis that erupted in both Plateau and Kano states may also compel the lawmakers to resume next week. The Senate Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Senator Kolawole Awoyelu, confirmed last night that, "there is a possibility that we reconvene next week but the final decision has not been taken, I can only advise that you wait for the formal announcement." The Senate had on the completion of its first session June 3 proceeded on a recess to last till July 20.
