DPR Seeks Clarification on Fuel Pricing By Gloria Achoyamen The Department of Petro-leum Resources (DPR) said it was seeking clarification from the Office of Presidential Adviser on Energy and the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) on the actual fuel price before imposing sanctions on marketers. DPR Director, Mr. Mac Ofurhie, said yesterday after an inspection tour of some filling stations in Lagos, that it was holding back on clamping down on retail outlets for now, because of the conflicting reports on the actual fuel price. Marketers raised petrol price on Sunday to between N42.70 and N42.90 per litre, against the N41.50 per litre widely believed to be the prevailing price as at February 9, this year. "Marketers have some dispute with NNPC over the price, they wanted the compensation for the losses they incurred by changing the price from N49.50, so they came to N42.90," said Ofurhie. "We dont want to see them hoarding, those who have fuel should sell to lessen the queues until we are able to draw conclusion with PPPRA, the adviser and NNPC on the next price", he said, adding, "Ours is not to set price but to enforce price and we have seven task forces monitoring different zones in other states and as well in Lagos." The DPR inspection team visited Mobil, Oando, AP and Total filling stations in the Lagos metropolis.
