No Plan for Emergency Rule in Lagos - PDP
The ruling Peoples Demo-cratic Party (PDP) has denied that it is fuelling crisis in Lagos State to encourage President Olusegun Obasanjo to impose a state of emergency.
Reacting to the allegation by Afenifere, the Pan Yoruba Socio Cultural body, that Works Minister, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe was using his ministry to fuel crisis between the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government to ensure the proclamation of emergency rule in Lagos, the PDP described such allegations as untrue and unfounded.
"PDP is not planning or plotting any state of emergency in Lagos State, neither is the party instigating any crisis, of what value and benefit would it be to PDP," Deputy National Chair-man of PDP, Chief Shuaib Oyedokun said.
Afenifere had in a statement recently accused PDP of sponsoring the tussle between the Lagos State Government and the Federal Ministry of Work over activities of Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and other Lagos State agencies operating within the Federal Government owned roads as a plot to make the state ungovernable and encourage the President to impose emergency rule in the state.
The position of Afenifere was made known Monday in Lagos by its National Administrative Secretary, Yinka Odumakin.
Oyedokun told THISDAY in an interview in Abuja, however stated that; "the Afenifere is crying wolf, where none existed."
Oyedokun urged Afenifere to rather than engage in tirades, restrict its activities strictly to socio cultural matters, as it might soil its hands in partisan politics.
He alleged that Afenifere was "hunted by its activities," noting that "members of PDP are also members of Afenifere."
The PDP Chieftain advised the Lagos State Government and the minister to approach dialogue as a measure to resolve the tussle.
