Gold Deposit: Osun Demands N100m Royalty From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola yesterday appealed to the Federal Government to pay N100million as royalty for the gold and other mineral deposits being exploited in Ilesa. Oyinlola, while receiving Minister of Solid Minerals, Mr. Odion Ugbesia, said, "the payment of the royalty would assist the state in providing social infrastructure for the communities in the mineral prospecting area." The governor noted that "the state was losing so much despite its mineral involvement due to the nation's mineral act which rested enormous power in the Federal Government." He stated further that "time had come for the Federal Government to recognise the need to pay royalty to the state which is in a position to provide social amenities for the solid minerals communities." His words "the goose that lays the golden egg should be taken care of, as the various problems in the Niger-Delta is due to the long years of neglect of the oil rich communities. We must not allow the something to happen here." Responding, Odion Ugbesia said the Federal Government had awarded air-borne geological survey of all the mineral deposits in the country. He said that, "Osun state and indeed the nation is richly endowed in mineral resources which remained unexploited."
