No Plan for More Emirate Councils -Kure From Jide Orintunsin in Minna Niger State governor Abdulkadir Kure has foreclosed any plan of creating new emirate councils out of the existing eight councils despite agitation from some quarters. Putting paid to the call for additional emirate councils, the governor told visiting Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro who came on a "thank you" visit to the governor for his appointment as the 315th Emir of Borgu, on Tuesday that he has no intention to increase or reduce emirate councils. Apparently referring to the agitation by the people of Wawa district in Borgu emirate for a separate emirate council, the governor said, "I met 8 emirate councils when I assumed office in 1999 and by the grace of God I will leave behind 8 emirate councils" The governor had accused the Dodo of Wawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Aliyu of inciting his people not to vote for him in 2003 if he failed to revisit their demand for emirate council. "Today it has pleased Allah to put us in this leadership position and I want to say that I can not be hoodwinked into politics of Emirate Councils" Kure declared. THISDAY however learnt that the agitation for an Emirate Council by the people of Wawa pre-dates the Kure administration. It was gathered that the call was a carry over from Kwara State where Borgu Emirate Council was before.
