Man Gets Ultimatum on Sales Tax Law Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a two-week ultimatum to corporate organisations and members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN)to comply with the State's Sales Tax law or have their business closed down. Tinubu, who handed down the ultimatum yesterday during a courtesy call by the Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Festus Odimegwu, noted that despite a two year delay and a court pronouncement in favour of the state some corporate bodies have refused to comply. He was particularly miffed by a declaration credited to the President of MAN to the effect that members should not comply despite a court judgement which gave the state a nod to collect such. Tinubu said it is the height of irresponsibility for anyone to make such statement since "the court judgement and the appeal in court did not include a stay-of-Execution. "Anyone wishing to do business in the state should do so within the ambit of the law." While reiterating his administration's commitment to the principle of stimulating economic growth through the private sector, Asiwaju Tinubu assured that improvement in infrastructure and a business friendly environment will remain a top priority of the administration. He noted that the social hilt of his administration's policy is to ensure a society in which all segments regardless of economic status will have a stake in society. Gov. Tinubu also noted that though a waiver had been given over the take off date of payment to the current year many still perceive their coporate responsibility in terms of paying a token.
