Fuel Price: Bauchi NLC Vows to Enforce Compliance
Bauchi State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to do everything possible to ensure that all petroleum marketers in the state comply with the agreement reached by the NLC and the Federal Government on the N41.00 per litre as pump price through out the country.
State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Iliyasu Zwall who was apparently reacting to the non-compliance to the court order by petroleum product dealers in Bauchi made the vow yesterday when he visited the Federal and State Ministries of Commerce in Bauchi.
Zwall said that his office has observed with dismay that after the suspension of the strike, petroleum marketers in the State were yet to comply with the directive on the sale of fuel and other petroleum products across the State.
The Chairman also said they were at the Ministry to meet with the appropriate quarters so as to discuss the matter before contacting the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR) office in Gombe.
He therefore appealed to the people of the State to remain calm and peaceful, adding that the NLC was working round the clock to ensure the sale of the products at the stipulated prices across the State.
On the just suspended nationwide strike, the Labour Leader described it as "very successful because we also made a point on how to move the petroleum sector forward," even as he commended workers and the people of the State for their support, co-operation and understanding.
Meanwhile, contrary to expectation, fuel dealers in Bauchi, the Bauchi State Capital and its environs are still selling at the new prices after Labour suspended its strike. It would be recalled that an Abuja High Court last week ordered both the Federal Government and Petroleum Products Marketers to revert to the oil pump prices of N38.00 per litre while asking the NLC to shelve its proposed strike.
But in defiance to the Court order, dealers in Bauchi as at yesterday were selling at between N55.00 and N58.00 per litre.
However, an executive member of the State NLC who pleaded anonymity in an interview with THISDAY disclosed that Labour in the State may embark on another strike action unless the petroleum marketers complied with the agreement reached last week on the reversion to the oil pump price of petroleum products.
