We're Committed to Environmental Sanitation - Computer Dealers
Lagos

"We are not just here to do business in Com-puter Village, Ikeja, Lagos but we are conscious of the need to protect, ensure regular and general cleaning of our environment."

These were the words of the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN), Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos and to this end, the Association has bought over 100 refuse containers for proper waste disposal in the Village. Besides, CAPDAN is about to sign a contract with the Private Sector Participation (PSP), refuse collector assigned to Ikeja area to ensure proper sanitation.

Apparently reacting to the recent notice from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, chiding the traders on non-compliance with the environmental sanitation regulations of the state, CAPDAN in a statement yesterday, said cleanliness is next to godliness, adding that "we also recognise the need to get the Village rid of hoodlums and Area Boys, who have become nuisance and usually disturb people who patronise the Village for business. At our Association level, we have Task Force on environmental sanitation and we strongly feel that CAPDAN can liase with necessary state law enforcement agents, including the state Ministry of Environment."

While expressing displeasure over street trading, the Association advised the general public to transact business with shopowners, saying street trading, most especially along Otigba and Ositelu streets, has extremely become worrisome. The Asso-ciation said street trading in the areas mentioned mainly involved buying and selling of used handsets otherwise called Tokunbo.

"We believe that the driven force of 21st Century is power of Information Technology (IT), thus it is our opinion that transactions of IT-related products should be done in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and avoidable congestion," CAPDAN observed.
