PDP summons Ngige, Uba for fresh
talks today
SIMON IBE,

A
crucial meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of People’s Democratic
Party (PDP) holding in Abuja today, is expected to resolve the lingering
political crisis in Anambra State.
The parley to which Governor Chris Ngige,
his estranged political godfather, Chief Chris Uba, National Assembly members
from the state and other major stakeholders in the politics of the area have
been invited, would evolve a lasting formula for enduring peace in the state.
According to the National Publicity
Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Venatius Ikem, who confirmed that the talks would hold
today, several issues that have been posing problems, especially between the
political camps of Governor Ngige and Chief Uba, should be resolved.
Among these issues, he said, in a
telephone interview with Daily Champion yesterday, are the question of
the party’s council poll candidates, a date for the local government election,
modalities for putting in place a state executive committee for the party and
the issue of the lifting of the suspension placed on Chief Uba in the wake of
the July 10, last year’s attempt to abduct and remove Gov. Ngige from office.
According to Ikem, the meeting would have
held last week, but for the nationwide fuel price strike which compelled the
governor as chief security officer to stay back in Awka, the state capital to
ensure that the strike did not get out of hand in the area.
Senior Special Assistant on Media and
Publicity to the governor, Mr Fred Chukwuelobe, also yesterday, confirmed to
Daily Champion on telephone that the governor was already on his way to
Abuja to attend the meeting and that the question of reconciliation of certain
outstanding issues, especially the date and list of the PDP’s candidates for the
council poll, would feature prominently at the meeting.
