PDP Moves to Stop Abia D/ Gov's Impeachment From Chuks Okocha in Abuja National headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has waded into the impeachment process against the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Dr. Chima Nwafor by the Abia State House of Assembly. Accordingly, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has summoned all stakeholders of PDP in Abia to a meeting next week in Abuja. The party is worried because the impeachment is coming too soon after that of the Deputy Governor of Taraba State who was impeached in March. A source from PDP told THISDAY that, "if this is allowed to take place, then it will present PDP as a disorganised party without discipline." National Vice Chairman, Southeast, Chief Chukwu Ozichukwu said, "We are not contesting the legislative rights of the House of Assembly, but PDP as a party has its rules and procedures. For anything to happen in the party, the party must be properly informed and kept on notice." Ozichukwu added that "to proceed on any impeachment against the deputy governor, we deserve to be consulted, to be properly informed and briefed and to be taken along. For now, the party has not been briefed. We do not know what is going on in Abia State." Ozichukwu said PDP did not support the impeachment process against Nwafor noting, we have gotten in torch with the Governor, Orji Kalu, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and the Abia State PDP Chairman."
