From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo and Tunde Sanni in Ilorin
A head of 2007 Presidential polls, Former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Brig. General Buba Marwa (rtd) yesterday declared that, he was not in the presidential race to step down for any person for any political reason whatsoever.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Osogbo after a close door meeting with Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, vowed that, he can never step down for former Military President, GeneralIbrahim Babangida (rtd) or any other presidential aspirant.
Marwa, asked whether he was prepared to sacrifice his presidential ambition for Babangida's, denied that he was fronting for the former president.
"Well, I have to step up to something before I step down. Have I stepped up?" he said.
Marwa added that, "this question has been asked several times. This fronting thing, a lot of people are making speculations but there is no such thing."
"Let me tell you, at 50, with the credibility that I have, you can be sure that it is only the Almighty God that will decide anybody's destiny", he declared. Marwa said, he would soon make public his plan for the 2007 presidential election.
"I will soon make my position known on whether I have presidential ambition or not in 2007, but everything is in the hand of Allah," Marwa added. He, however, called on the people to be up and doing towards protecting the nascent democracy.
Meanwhile Marwa in Ilorin during a coutesy call on Governor Bukola Saraki said of his presidential ambition, "whatever will be will be, if it has been destined by God that I will be the next President, nothing will stop it and if it has been destined that I will not be there, nothing will make it possible".
The former administrator in a veiled reply to the comment made by Major General Abdulkarim Adisa, (rtd) that the Presidency is not for foreigners, replied, " I can assure you that I am not English or French. I am a bonafide Nigerian. My father served in the Nigerian Armed Forces for 40 years.
"I have also served particular offices both in the military and other sensitive areas and before you get to these offices, you are vetted".
Marwa who shed light on his mission to the state called on Nigerians not to allow monetary inducement influence the choice of the next President in 2007.
