Turaki Lists Panacea for Co-existence From Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja Jigawa State Governor, Saminu Turaki, yesterday identified strict compliance with constitutional provision which makes it mandatory for elective office seekers to be resident in the area they want to contest election as a way out of indigenes versus settlers crises. Turaki, said this during a session with newsmen after paying a courtesy call on the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, noting that, "the constitution is clear. We should follow the constitutional provision so that anybody who doesn't reside in an area should not contest elections. Wherever you find yourself is your community and makes you a citizen of that community. No country has ever made progress through segregation or second class citizen syndrome and Nigeria would not be an exception. It is those who have scores to settle that are coming up with assertions of second class citizens in this country and we can't move forward without unity," he said. Commenting on the level of his achievement in five years, the governor said "what we have done is to focus on programmes rather than pursuing vendetta or allow in-fighting. It is not everybody that can understand what we are doing but one has continued to face targets. We were determined to change the face of the state and we looked at areas we could make progress economically and by so doing, we concentrated on the development of human factor and no matter how much we have been criticised, we have remained focussed".
