Minister Advocates Peace Restoration in Plateau From Funmi Peter Omale in Jos Minister of Water Resources, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, has said it was the responsibility and duty of people of Plateau to ensure restoration of lasting peace for any meaningful development to take place. Shagari made the call in Jos yesterday during the presentation of water manual pumps to local government councils in the state. In his words, "the people of Plateau State must understand that you cannot develop without peace, you cannot be the land of tourism without peace. Whatever there is to do, you must begin by establishing peace. Lasting peace is not the responsibility of an individual, it is the responsibility of the entire people of the state. "You are the only people who can give yourselves peace, others can only support and pray for you," he said. The minister declared that President Olusegun Obasanjo was very committed to the "presidential initiative on water for life," adding that the programme is basically geared towards ensuring that people in the rural areas have direct access to potable water.
