'8.4m Children Trapped in Illicit Activities' International Labour Organi-sation (ILO), has revealed that 8.4 million children worldwide are trapped in slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, sexual exploitation, pornography and other illicit activities. Delivering a goodwill message at a gathering of school children organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with UNICEF to mark the Day to the African Child yesterday in Abuja, Mr. Mac John Nwaobiala, National Programme Manager of ILO-IPEC in Nigeria said national statistics indicate that over 15 million children are working in Nigeria, six out of this number do not attend school and over two million are exposed to very long working hours. Commending FG's efforts, Nwabiala said, "over the years the celebration of the Day of the African Child in Nigeria has succeeded in creating the much needed awareness on the situation of the Nigerian Child and the need for increased efforts towards creating the enabling environment for their healthy survival and development." Responding, Minister of Women Affairs, Rita Akpan said this year's celebration was expected to remind Nigerians of their responsibilities to the generation of the African continent.
