Odili Signs Bill on Cultism From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt Rivers State governor, Dr Peter Odili, Tuesday signed into Law a bill passed by the State House of Assembly on the eradication of cultism and similar matters in the state. The bill which is the fatest to be passed and signed by the executive is tagged, the secret cult and similar activities (Prohibition) bill 2004.� The law prescribes a 10 years jail term without option of fine upon conviction in deserving cases. Odili, while signing the Law , restated the state government's determinaion to decend heavily on cult practices , warning that there will be no sacred lamb in the execution of the Law in the State. He recalled that a meeting of shareholders was convened by the government over a month ago where if was unanimously agreed that government should leave no stone unturned in confronting and addressing the menace of cultism. Government, Odili said, had risen in the few weeks to the challenge with decisive actions, adding that those who doubted the determination and the courage of government to rise to the challenge must be thinking differently. "We believe that the response that has come from security agencies so far is satisfactory to most of us . We also believe that a few other areas are also waiting for government", he said.
