Okogie Rates FG Low on Democracy Dividends
By Andrew Ahiante

Archbishop of the Lagos Catholic Archdiocese, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie, has rated the Federal Government low on democracy dividends. He insisted that not much has changed in the lives of the ordinary citizens.

Accordingly, Okogie who marked his 68th birthday yesterday, said at a press conference there was need for leaders to be God-fearing and have genuine love for the people. He described the decision by the Federal Government to leave the petroleum sector in the hands of private operators as sheer irresponsibility.

He said a situation where only a handful of people had access to the wealth of the nation does not speak well of the leadership of the nation, advising that the ills should be corrected before it was too late.

"We need men and women who have the will power not for their own advantage but for others. We need leaders who will be imbued with the fear of God and the love of their fatherland. The model of such leadership of course is the Lord Jesus who came into the world not to be served but to serve and to give His life as ransom for many", he insisted.

Okogie who captioned his message "My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord", further lamented that the revenue of the nation was not reflected in the living standard of the citizens. He condemned the Federal Government for engaging in meaningless projects to the detriment of the masses.

"Nothing much has changed except that we are told that we are now a democratic nation with little or nothing to show for it. How healthy our democracy is, is yet to be seen", he said.

The Cardinal who submitted that the work of rebuilding the nation should not be left for government alone, urged everyone to contribute its quota, and called on Nigerian abroad to be good
