Tinubu Commends Judiciary

Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos yesterday commended the role of the judiciary in the sustenance of democracy. He noted that without the judiciary, "the present democracy would have been in the grave.
Speaking at the launch of a book, "The Pursuit of Justice and Development," essays in honour of Justice Omotayo Moronkeji Onalaja, a retired judge of the Appeal Court, Tinubu said the present crops of men on the bench have rekindled the hope that judiciary indeed is the hope and bastion of the common man.
He said, in the face of intimidation, the judiciary has always been able to stand its grounds, as it remained the last hope of the common man.
Tinubu who hinted that his administration has commenced the review of the state judicial system, assured that the government would at all times, lend its support to the judiciary in its bid to ensure justice and fairness. He later made a personal donation of N1 million in support of the book launch and another N1 million on behalf of the state government.
Justice Onalaja, who is now the Chairman of Council of Legal Education, assured that he would collaborate with the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Chief Kayode Jegede to turn around the fortunes of the institution.
He expressed appreciation to the editors of the book, Messrs Yemi Akinseye-George and Gbolahan Gbadamosi, The Guardian's Assistant Judicial Editor, and others who contributed to the success of the publication for a job well-done.
The occasion was graced by eminent Nigerians, among them, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State Femi Pedro, Justice Salisu Belgore, a Supreme Court judge, who represented the Chief Justice of Nigeria, immediate past Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ibitola Sotuminu, Justices Kayode Eso, and the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olateru-Olagbegi.
