Lawmaker Advises Prison Contractors on Uprightness Amember of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, has warned contractors handling supplies in the Nigerian Prisons to desist from compromising standards, as it is capable of having adverse effects on the living condition of inmates. Speaking with newsmen in Lagos yesterday, Hon. Okoya-Thomas, who is the Chairman, Sub Committee on Prison Service, urged those josling for prison contracts to ensure that they comply with all laid down rules. She expressed grave concern on the living standards of inmates in Nigerian prisons, urging contractors not to frustrate the efforts of government in making life better for inmates. She said the House would ensure that all the funds earmarked for the prisons get there as the House is poised towards improving the living standards of inmates Okoya-Thamas advised to Warders who connoved with contractors to defraud the prison to desist henceforth, adding that efforts are being made by government bto boost the welfare of prison officials. She said what should be paramount in the minds of all stakeholders in Nigerian Prisons is to ensure that services are discharged satisfactoryly so as to justify the confidence reposed in them by the public.
