NSE Takes Investment Campaign to LBS
The Nigerian Stock Exchange has carried its campaign on investment to Europe with emphasis on the unique features of the Exchange's unprecedented growth in recent times.
Speaking recently, to a cross section of MBA Students of African decent at the London Business School (LBS) on Africa the Last Investment Frontier. the Exchange's Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mrs. Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke explored the historical investment flows in Africa and drew the graphical correlation between investment flows and economic development in Africa.
She spoke extensively about Nigeria's investment climate with emphasis on the Exchange's growth in recent times.
For instance, she reported that the total market capitalisation which stood at over N1 trillion in January this year crossed N2 trillion. In the same vein, All-Share Index which was above 20,000 points mark as at January this year is fast approaching 30,000 points mark.
Okereke-Onyiuke said that these phenomenal growth in trading indices translate to superior returns on investment on the market.
Okereke-Onyiuke who also used a dollar based return ratio analysis for the Exchange posited that "...the future belongs to Africa as the last investment frontier... with population growth in Africa still climbing, economies that have embraced democracy and good government are also beginning to stabilise. The world's future customers will be Africans providing handsome returns for investors who brave it and enter now."
The Director General cited the beer and telecommunications industries as typical sub-sectors of the economy where multinational companies such as Heineken, Guinness, Nokia hand sets and MTN GSM services are getting some of their best returns on investment in Africa, particularly, in Nigeria.
Okereke- Onyiuke who delivered the Keynote Address at the Africa Day at London Business School reiterated the Exchange's commitment to transparency and good governance as sine-qua-non for effective investors protection.
This year's Africa Day attracted participation from the major multinational oil companies and some of the world's famous investment bankers such as Shell, De-Bears Group, Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg, Merrill Lynch among others.
The London Business School, regarded as the World's premier university with bias for finance, business and economics has produced some of the world's renowned leaders in politics and business.
