KADUNA: FORMER Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Wada Nas has accused the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) of complicating the issue of petroleum products scarcity by deliberately bungling last week’s nation- wide strike action by labour.
Nas also said that the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Funsho Kupolokun was right when he predicted that the NLC would not sustain the strike for too long just as he accused both the Federal Government and leadership of NLC of further compounding the hardship of Nigerians through the ill-fated strike. ”The Adams Oshiomhole-led NLC has compromised. There is now no difference between the NLC and the Federal Government. Both are known to deceive Nigerians always. NNPC boss, Kupolokun was right when he said that Labour cannot fight the Federal Government. “NLC has deceived Nigerians for too long and it should not think of organizing any successful strike again in this country”, Alhaji Nas told newsmen in Kaduna yesterday.
Also commenting on President Olusegun Obasanjo’s trip to the United States for the meeting of G8 during the NLC crises, Alhaji Nas said the trip was a great insult on Nigerians.” Obasanjo’s leaving this country while the nation-wide strike was on, to me was the greatest insult by the President on Nigerians. It is a blow to democracy itself. The defence of the trip by his Minister of Information that Obasanjo travelled on the invitation of the richest countries of the world didn’t hold water at all.”This is because, it is only when the country exists that he (Obasanjo) can be invited to such a meeting. No matter the seriousness of the meeting, Obasanjo should not have travelled at that time. I doubt if any reasonable President would leave his country when it is burning... when it is on fire to attend a meeting no matter how crucial that meeting is.
