Kanu finetunes marriage plans
FESTUS ABU
SUPER Eagles
and Arsenal FC of England striker, Nwankwo Kanu has embarked on detailed plans
to ensure the overwhelming presence of his friends at his wedding to Amarachi
Onyeador and make the occasion glamorous, even as he bankrolls an
all-expenses-paid overseas trip of 15 children for heart surgery.
His close associates packaging the
marriage scheduled for the Presybyterian Church, Aladinma in Owerri and the
reception at the Imo Concorde Hotel, have equally been fine-tuning the strategy
for the logistics of moving guests in and out of the state capital for the
event.
Already, management of the five-star Imo
Concorde Hotel may have embarked on comprehensive renovation that would ensure
that the VIP guests expected at the wedding are perfectly taken care of.
Kanu, is about leaving Arsenal FC against
next season.
Meanwhile, Kanu will today see off 15
children travelling overseas for heart surgery on the bill of his Kanu Heart
Foundation, the project the football star initiated after surviving his career
threatening heart ailment shortly after joining Inter Milan FC of Italy.
According to the chief executive officer
(CEO) of the Foundation, Mr. Paul Okoye, the children are scheduled to depart
the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos today for Israel and
India respectively.
While overseas, the children will undergo
open-heart operations in first class hospitals, all at the expense of the
Foundation.
Kanu, who was expected to arrive the
country from London last night, according to Okoye, will be on hand to witness
the departure of the children.
At Seria A Inter Milan, it was
discovered that Kanu had an opening in his heart and doctors recommended him for
a major operation shortly after he returned from Atlanta ‘96 Olympics where he
helped the Dream Team to lift the football event gold.
Having survived the operation, the player
decided to set up the Foundation to assist children suffering from heart
problems, whose parents lack the resources to treat them.
So far, a number of children have benefitted from the
Foundation.
