N10m bribery: Police boss submits self for investigation

JIGAWA Police Commissioner Sale Abubakar says he is ready to face investigations into a N10 million bribery allegation made against him by a federal lawmaker from the state.

Abubakar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Wednesday in Dutse that he was ready for investigations by the office of the Inspector-General of Police or any other body.

"I have never seen N10 million cash in my life, talk less of collecting it for whatever purpose," he said.

Rep. Faruk Adamu (Birnin Kudu federal constituency) had accused the police commissioner of receiving N10 million from Gov. Saminu Turaki as part of a plot to kill him.

The lawmaker had petitioned the Inspector-General, seeking immediate intervention by the police authority.

Abubakar, however, said his problem with Adamu started when the police turned down his request to hold a political rally in Birnin Kudu due to the prevailing political tension in the area.

The commissioner denied that the police had taken sides in the intra-party squabbles involving the governor, the lawmaker and the ANPP in the area.

He emphasised that he had never taken instructions from Turaki to compromise his job, saying: "I can never take instructions from the governor to molest somebody."

Abubakar advised the lawmaker to always seek redress in the court of law "rather than resort to wild allegations and provocative statements."
