Evacuates 17,000 Nigerians from Cameroon By Oghenekevwe Laba The Federal Government has set a machinery in motion to repatriate no fewer than 17,000 Nigerians who fled the country to Cameroon in 2001 due to communal disturbances. A report monitored on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) stated that the Nigerians fled the country because of fighting between farmers and cattle rearers on the Manbila Plateau in Taraba State. As part of preparation to evacuate them, a Presidential Committee in conjunction with the Taraba State Government officials has been set up for a smooth repatriation of the Nigerians.. The Presidential officials have assured the returning people that machinery for their peaceful existence has been put in place and that their lives and property are safe. The committee equally added that temporary accommodation has been put in place for the affected people while the government has also made food available for them. Meanwhile, the Chief Security officer to the Taraba State Governor, Mr. Charles Mechangari, has assured that amenities have been put in place at the state level for the smooth repatriation exercise.
