Ignore Dual Citizenship, Kolade Advises Nigerians In UK

NigerianHigh Commis-sioner to United Kingdom, Dr Christopher Kolade, has advised Nigerians residents in the United Kingdom not to allow the idea of dual citizenship affect their commitments and loyalty to their country of origin and the people they left back home.
Kolade who was speaking as special guest of honour at the anniversary of the Epe Division Descendants Union, UK branch in London said despite the introduction of dual citizenship idea among nations, an individual can only come from one country which will be his origin.
"By the grace of God, you can only come from one country which is your origin. So, that country of origin is important to you. God made it possible for people to move around the world in search of opportunities. Some of you have found the opportunities in the UK and by exploiting the opportunities, you found it possible to be successful even more than other people who live in the UK," he said.
The High commissioner further urged Nigerians in the UK to strive to make their country of origin more congenial for their kith and kin back home by investing in business opportunities and social services in Nigeria.
He noted that President Olusegun Obasanjo's campaign for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Nigeria was not only directed at getting foreigners to invest in the country but also to make Nigerians who have funds abroad to invest them back home.
Kolade while presenting the Lagos State Government Health Services Merit Award to the Chairman of the Epe Descendants Union, Mr Segun Keshinro, noted that the contributions of the members of the union to their communities of origin in Lagos State which earned them the award should serve as a good example for other Nigerian groups in the UK.
"What you have done to help your communities is not only inline with God's directive but also in tandem with government's policy," he said while hoping that the efforts of the union will be a continuous thing.
"That Lagos State governmen thas recognised your efforts is tremendous. I know that if I am still high commissioner next year, you will write me to come and present another award. It is important for us to give as much puublicity," he said.
