Alli Orders Withdrawal of Plateau Assemblymen's Cars From Funmi Peter-Omale in Jos A showdown is imminent between the Plateau State administrator, Major Gen. Chris Alli (rtd) and suspended members of the state House of Assembly over the withdrawal of official government vehicles allocated to the latter before their suspension on May 18. In a letter dated June 10, 2004, signed by S.A. Musa, the Acting Clerk of the state House of Assembly was directed to consider the retrieval of the vehicles "as a matter of urgency and priority." According to information made available to THISDAY in Jos yesterday, a five-man committee constituted by the administrator was tasked to retrieve all official vehicles from all suspended political and public office holders "who have left the services of the state." "This notion has generated ripples as the suspended office holders consider themselves suspended and not removed from office" a member of the Assembly said. Information indicated that suspended members of the Assembly have directed their solicitor, Okey Akobundu to acquaint the Attorney General and Minister of Justice on the development and the legal implication of what the government of the day is doing. A letter by the counsel stated in parts: "The purpose of this letter is to inform you that while this suit is pending, attempts have been made to dispossess the plaintiff of their official cars and other property by virtue of their office."
