Presidential Retreat Ready December From Amby Uneze in Calabar Work on the first ever presidential retreat in the country has reached advanced stage at the Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State. The project when completed, will be available for conferences of international standard where important functions would be held. Governor Donald Duke who inspected work on the site urged engineers to redouble their efforts to enable government commission the first phase of the project by December. The project which is part of the tourism development of the state, targetted at attracting presidents and heads of government of other countries to the prestigious Obudu Ranch Resort is also one of the many projects of Donald Duke vision. Inspected by the governor are the over five kilometres of roads network within the retreat complex, drainages as well as quarters for presidential guard. Other areas covered were villas for the president's entourage and building sites for the Presidential Lodge, education and conference centres as well as helicopter pads. Duke had earlier made extensive suite to suite inspection of facilities at the ranch resort and assessed construction work on the arrival hall for the cable car to link the mountain base with the resort. Similarly, the state government is embarking on the building of fifty-four, chalets at Utanga in Obanliku to provide alternative accommodation for visitors to the ranch and other tourism sites in the area. The houses are designed as hostels for students on excursion and luxury suites for families on prolonged visits to the ranch. The governor who inspected work on the lodges expressed desire to complete the project before the end of the year.
