Civil Servants Tasked On Work Attitude From Iyefu Adoba in Abuja Vice President Atiku Abubakar yesterday in Abuja called for adoption of new attitude, techniques and skills by the nation's civil Servants, even as he said the Nigeria civil service remains a very strong and stabilizing factor in the process of Nigeria's political history. Atiku who spoke through the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai at the opening of this year's retreat for permanent secretaries and directors in the Federal Civil Service, also described the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy, (NEEDS) as the pillar upon which Federal Government's economic programme and policies hinges. Speaking in the same vein, the Economic Adviser to the President, Professor Ode Ojowu said NEEDS would invariably address the inherent weaknesses in the executive and technical capacities in the Public Service. Ojowu said the document launched by President Olusegun Obasanjo in response to the challenges of development also includes the challenges of the reformation of the Public service. "It is gratifying to note that one of the fundamental principles of NEEDS is to re-orientate government agencies towards effective and timely delivery of services to the people and make governance relevant in development" said Professor Ojowu.
