Residents Flee as Akume Visits Kwande LG Benue State Governor George Akume, Monday, visited the troubled Kwande local government where he sued for peace and promised to look into the crisis. This is just as residents of one of the communities took to their heels on his arrival. The governor particularly visited Adikpo the local government headquarters where houses have been torched and properties destroyed. THISDAY learnt that at Adikpo the governor addresed the people before he proceeded to Jato Aka where a fresh attack on the area last Monday and Thursday left at least 10 people dead. It was learnt that the people of Jato Aka, home town of the All Nigeria Peoples Party 2003 gubernatorial candidate, Wantaregh Paul Unongo, refused to be addresed by the governor. They fled when the governor arrived the area and refused to receive him despite attempts to convince them that the governor's visit was for peace. Some of the residents were said to have ran for fear of being arrested. In another development, the homes of some suspected members of Odua People's Congress in the suburbs of Akure, Ondo State were invaded by security agents yesterday on a tip off that some reprisal attacks were being planned. The home of one Chief Olu Alabi who is being held was among those raided and those caught were taken away. Though detained, the home of the chief continues to be host to several clandestine meetings of the organisations members. Alabi's house had been raided in the past, while some family members have since fled since security agents came after them. Augustine Aiwanfo, one of the Chief's aides is amongst those still wanted in connection to the organisations activities.
