Bauchi NLC Threaten Fuel Marketers
From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi

Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to do everything possible to ensure that all petroleum marketers in the state comply with the agreement reached on the price of petroleum products.

Zwall said that while petroleum marketers in the southern part of the country have since reverted to the price of N41.50 price per litre as recently agreed upon by labour and government, those in the North East were particularly more "unco-operative and adamant."

At a Press Briefing at the NUJ Secretariat, Bauchi over the weekend, the NLC State Chairman Comrade Iliyasu Ibrahim Zwall frowned at the way and manner filling stations in the state were still selling between N45.00 to N57.00 per litre, and therefore stressed the need for major and independent petroleum marketers in the state to revert to the agreed pump price per litre.

The leader said labour in conjuction with relevant agencies would not hesitate to close down any filling station that failed to comply with current pump prices of petroleum products in the State.

The labour leader said NLC in collaboration with the state Ministry of Commerce and Industry have been working round the clock to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

He therefore solicited the support of the entire people of the state towards actualising the goal and described those that failed to comply with the directive as "not only unpatriotic but economic saboteurs."

According to him "we were at the ministry of commerce and industry to meet with the appropriate quarters so as to discuss the matter even before we went to contact the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) on how to ensure compliance with the agreed price of petroleum products in the state."
