'Obasanjo's Opponents from South-West'
From Toba Suleiman in Abeokuta
Chairman Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih has expressed regret that most political opponents and detractors of President Olusegun Obasanjo and his government are found among his kinsmen from the southwest.
Anenih expressed the regrets in Abeokuta during the Southwest zonal meeting of the party stating that it is quite disheartening and disturbing that the most vicious and vulgar condemnation of Mr president and his government are from his zone of origin.
He observed with dismay that members of the party have shown very disturbing lack of awareness of the contending forces presently at work in "our polity and their sinister motives." Anenih further asked why they are not there brother's, keeper?
He warned against those he said lost in the last elections and have refused to concede victory to their opponents.
Anenih added, "Instead, they are ganging up on the platform of failed political aspirants under all kinds of names to stir public disaffection and to ridicule the honest efforts of government to fulfil its electoral promises."
According to him, PDP members must shun personal interest and egos, and work towards what would make the party exceed the performance of the "out-gone Alliance for Democracy (AD)" governments in the South-West zone so as to be relevant in future elections.
He urged them to find a way of dealing with youth restiveness, communal conflicts, unemployment, over-exaggeration of problems and undue attacks on the presidency through the media by those he described as enemies of progress.
Expressing the need for change of attitude for developmental efforts intended for the benefit of "our people not to be frustrated," Anenih said this is the only way that "we as leaders could be seen, and go down in history as providing responsible leadership and helping to address the welfare needs of our people."
"There must be peace, there must be unity, there must be dialogue and there must be patience," Anenih pleaded.
