FCT Taxi: Preferred Bidder Emerges Friday From Andy Ekugo in Abuja The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Malam Nasir el-Rufai revealed yesterday that Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria (PAN) and operators of the London Taxi would know their fate on Friday, June 25, 2004 when the final decision on what car, model and preferred bidder would be chosen for the FCT taxi. El-Rufai stated this when Management of PAN visited him again to present another model of car being showcased for the FCT new transportation programme just as the team that went to London to study offers being made by the operators of the London taxi is putting finishing touches to the report expected to be presented also on Friday according to the directives from President Olusegun Obasanjo. El-Rufai commended the management of PAN for their resilience in working with the FCT in the programme and wished that the Committee handling the taxi programme would have a fruitful discussion with the company. Stressing that about 600 units of the cabs are expected before the end of this year, el-Rufai also revealed that from information reaching him, there was also a good deal from the London taxi operators and hinted that there could be more than one model to choose from. He told the delegation led by the Chairman of PAN Alhaji Aliyu Modibo however that what will determine the number of taxis to be bought from PAN should they win, will also depend on the price per unit and urged them to work out a price that will not only be attractive but affordable for the programme.
