NUJ Urges FG to Regulate Oil Market

The Federal Government has been called upon to regulate the activities of oil marketers in the country in order to control the improper adjustment of fuel pump prices.
Speaking on the state of the nation at its congress the NUJ called on the Federal Government to regulate the activities of oil marketers in the counry because of a noticeable imprper adjustment of fuel pump machines."
The Congress, also advised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to be more aggressive in their agitation by taking more practical steps such as going into marketing and refinery business to assist Nigerian workers.
Union also called on the government to create an enabling environment for those who have been licneced to operate refineries.
Journalists from all media houses in lagos State attended the three-and-half-hour congress meeting held inside the Congress Hall in its new and ultra modern secretariat compex on Iyalla street, Alausa, Ikeja.
The eight-point communique of the congress jointly signed by Mrs Olufunke Fadugba Chairperson and Okonkwo Adolphus, Secretary, respectively, endorsed the earlier declaration of state of emergency on Nigerian media by the Nigeria Guild of Editors, NGE, at its recent meeting held in Asaba, Delta State.
Congress also noted that the national secretariat of the union ought to have declared the state of emergency on the media early last year in view of apparent nose-dive in the Nigerian media fortune.
The congress advised media owners to look inward and fish out quacks in their midst while journalists were advised to be more careful in taking up appointment in new media houses without clearly stated conditions of service.
In the same manner, the congress urged the government to amend the Nigeria Labour Laws which are obsolete and not worker-friendly to ensure that employers pay workers as at when due as it applies in other countries.
