Suspended ASUP Chief Sues Kwara Poly Chairman From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Comrade Ola Adefila, the chairman of Kwara Polytechnic Academic Staff Union (ASUP), suspended from his duty by the authorities of the institution has dragged the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem to court. Adefila through his counsel, Mr. Abeniy Muhammad also wants the court to commit the former University of Ilorin Vice Chancellor and three others for contempt proceedings. Joined as defendants in the motion for committal for contempt of court and interluctory injunction pursuant to Orders 8, 33 and 42 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) rules are, the rector, Dr. Yahya Abdulkareem, the Governing Council, the institution as well as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. The ASUP boss in a 20-Paragraph affidavit in support of the motion, averred that the court ruling was for all the parties to maintain the status quo ante pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. He further contended that the actions ran contrary to the appeal of the Deputy Governor for stay of proceedings in the suit to enable him settle the dispute between the union and the management. Adefila stated; that I know as a fact that my indefinite suspension is intended to intimidate me and to frustrate the proceeding in this suit as evidenced by another letter served on me dated June 16, 2004, barring me from the premises of the polytechnic.
