3 Feared Dead in Tanker Accident
No fewer than three persons were feared dead at the Weekend when a tanker conveying gas to a company located along Acme Road, Ogba, went up in flames.
Though, the actual identities of the victims could not be ascertained, an impeccable source said one of the victims was the driver of the tanker while the other was the conductor.
According to the source, the accident occurred while the driver attempted to enter the compound where the gas company was located.
"A section of the tanker got turned when the driver tried to negotiate a bend that led into the compound", the source said.
The source further alleged that the tanker finally burst into flames as a result of the gas leakage andboth driver and conductor and a yet to be identified person were caught up in the inferno.
The Area Commander, Area G Police Command, Ogba, Mr Sam Ojehume, personally led the police team to the scene.
Ojehume, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), when commenting on the issue could not confirm if the victims actually died as a result of the injury they sustained.
According to him, an information was received at the station about a terrible inferno that occurred along Acme Road, Ikeja.
On receipt of the information, Ojehume stated that he discovered that a tanker apparently on its way to a gas plant was on fire.
"At the scene I discovered that some group of people were battling to put out the fire while some others were only interested in their properties."
In an attempt to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses located along the same side, Ojehume said officials of the fire service were invited.
He added that three persons who sustained fire injuries were taken to a nearby hospital where they were given medical attention.
'I can not confirm if the three persons actually died after they were taken to hospital, what I do know was that the victims were rushed to hospital", he added.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Emmanuel Ighodalo, while confirming the incident stated that he got to know of the incident at about 5.30 pm same day.
