No Strange Disease at FGGC - Osuji From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Minister of Education, Professor Fabian Osuji has said that after careful analysis, medical experts from the Ministry of Health has dismissed claims of strange ailments on some students of the Federal Government Girls College, Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Osuji who visited the school to assess the situation on ground said the experts attributed the ailment to mass hysteria, which is more of psychological than medical problem. "This is a case of mass hysteria. I received a report from the Director of Public Health and the Chief Epidemologist in the Ministry of Health, both of them confirmed that samples taken from here did not contain viral or bacteria agent causing any illness; in other words there was no medical reason for any condition to exist. "They said what they could identify is what they described as mass hysteria among the students and such a condition could exist during examination time because students who show sympthoms get well after taking them outside school", Osuji said. He urged parents who had embarked on mass withdrawal of their wards from the school to return them, stressing that the problem was not medical as normalcy has returned to the school. Meanwhile, the authorities of the school have resorted to spiritual healings over the strange illness that allegedly invaded the school last month. Newsmen who accompanied the Minister witnessed special prayers holding at the School Mosques situated some meters away from the Principal's office by Islamic Youth League of Nigeria to find solution to the illness, which had defied medical remedy.
