Lawmaker Sponsors Eye Treatment
Hundreds of patients suffering from river blindness and other eye diseases in Ivo/Ohaozara /Onicha Federal Constit-uency are benefiting from free eye screening and treatment programme sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives, representing the area, Hon. Aroh Eusebus Aroh.
Many people, especially old men and women turned out for treatment of various eye diseases during the flag-off of the programme by the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr Chigozie Ogbu at Onicha-community in the South Senatorial district of the state yesterday.
Addressing the patients and others who came to welcome the medical team for the programme, Ogbu reminded them that Hon. Aroh decided to sponsor the programme to help the people in the area who suffer from river blindness and other eye diseases as his contribution to improve the lots of the people who voted him to represent them and praised Hon. Aroh for the kind gesture.
Ogbu observed that there was a lot of eye problems in the area, which he said was in the river blindness zone and commended the Federal House member for thinking out that idea to intervene and abort a situation where some members of the communities in the area would have become blind due to treatable eye diseases.
He said that the programme was very apt for the people who suffer from various eye ailments but may not have money to go for treatment, noting that this gesture of their Representative in the Federal House has given them succour because all the beneficiaries of the programme would be treated until their eye problems were cured.
"This is a good programme in the sense that he (Hon. Aroh) picked what the people needed. In this area there is a lot of eye problems. River blindness zone is around this area, so his picking the treatment of the eye here is quite apt. It is very very good. It helps Ebonyi state government in its rural healthcare programme.'
