Govt to Reposition Industries Delta From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba Delta State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Edewor Omonemu has restated the state government's determination to reposition industries in the state for smooth take-off. He equally said"we intend to grow one or two industries here and there, where funds can allow us. Government policy is that they should participate in growing industry to the extent of about 20 percent equity participation". Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Asaba,Ononemu hinted that the state government intends to take more liberal approach to the growing of industries. He stressed that the strategy to be employed is helping the private sector to grow industries, and where possible the government would house the shares for the citizens of the state. According to Omonemu, " Instead of government owning majority shares in the companies, government can start off by helping the organized private sector down the way by 50 percent, we are housing up to 50 to 70 percent shares and then through the stock Exchange we sell them to the public". On the industrial development in the country, he noted that it was unfortunate that it has not fared well, because all the issues concerned have not been tackled headlong. Omonemu further stated that industrilazation in the country has been treated over the years with levity adding that the industrial policies of subsequent governments of the federation have been so haphazard and inconsistent. Continuing, he said a situation where there is no consistency it would be difficult to pursue a particular programme to a logical conclusion.
