Media Tasked on HIV/AIDS Information Bauchi Media organisations in the country have been advised to devote news space and air time for religious leaders and traditional rulers to educate the public on the dangers of HIV/AIDS, sexually-transmitted diseases and other family health issues towards enhancing a healthy society. The suggestion was made by the Chief Imam of Giade Cenral Mosque in Bauchi State, Alhaji Salisu Aliyu at a sensitization seminar/meeting on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and other family health issues organized by the state chapter of National Assocaition of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in collaboration with the vision project, Bauchi, at the weekend. Speaking representative of the group, Mrs. Sheba Seth said that the meeting was aimed at creating awareness on HIV/AIDS and family healthy issues like child spacing among the opinion leaders in the council areas for them to use their respective positions in their communities to pass on the message to their people. Also in an address, a Giade Community leader, Alhaji Sule Wali Galadima expressed concern over the level of sexual pervasion in the society and suggested that since HIV/AIDS was a deadly disease, religious leaders and traditional rulers should concentrate on educating their followers against indulging in acts capable of exposing them to the disease. Responding, Giade Local Government Council Secretary, Alhaji Tanimu Saidu who represented the Council Chairman disclosed that the council has just commend an enlightenment committee on the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
