...He Lied - NFA From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja The Nigeria Football Associ-ation (NFA) in a swift reaction to the interview granted by Super Eagles Captain, Jay Jay Okocha that he was abandoned at the airport for the FIFA 2006 World Cup qualifier match against Anglola in Luanda, has said the allegation was false. NFA spokesman, Mr. Samuel Kaalu in a statement yesterday said that contrary to Okocha's claims, the NFA Protocol Officer in Lagos, Mr. Chidi Ngoka had kept vigil at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport to receive him but the player did not arrive on the flights he informed he would arrive on. "At the NFA Secretariat in Abuja, the Secretary General, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, worked the phones frantically in a bid to contact Okocha to ascertain if there was any change in his travel plans to Nigeria. "As at Wednesday evening, the Secretary General was still hoping that Okocha would arrive the country for both of them to travel to Angola on Thursday morning. It turned out to be a fruitless wait. "It is therefore puzzling to us for our National Team Captain to have charged the NFA scribe with refusing to pick his calls," Kaalu stated. He said though the NFA would not want to join issues in public with its players least of all its captain, whose contribution to the national team have not been in doubt, the NFA has deemed it appropriate to clarify the issue for the benefit of all stakeholders. "We wish to emphasise that the present leadership of the NFA places great premium on a harmonious relationship with players and would continue to do all within its powers to promote peace between the two parties," he said.
