Nnaji Tasks NFA Over NRA Election
By Femi Solaja
With less than one month to the 9th Delegate conference of Nigeria Referees' Association (NRA) the Enugu State chairman of the council, Mr Ray Nnaji, has called on the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to directly supervise the election into various positions of the National Executive Council.
Nnaji, a contestant to the leadership of the body allege that the out going President, Colonel Dogo Yalbisu had openly demonstrated that he would wish to hand over to his first Vice President, Sam Jaja.
In an interview with THISDAYSports yesterday, Nnaji said that it will be unfair to allow things go on like this and therefore, urged the NFA to get involved in the whole process.
"Because of this unpopular move, the out going leader no longer enjoys the credibility he requires to organise a free and fair election into the Executive Committee of NRA. In section 2, sub-section 2(c) of NFA Decree 101 of 1992 (now an Act of National Assembly) specifically charge the NFA to ensure the status and impartiality of football referees in Nigeria.
"Section 6(e) prescribes that the NFA should organise and regulate activities of NRA and the Nigeria Coaches Association (NCA), while sub section (f) empowers NFA to licence members of the NRA and NCA" he pointed out.
The Enugu state chairman said that Colonel Yalbisu allowed his opponent, Dr Jaja to launch his campaign last month in Lokoja, during a National Seminar for Training Officers and Society Training Officers.
"Jaja was encouraged by Yabilsu to flag-off his campaign in Lokoja, without inviting other candidates to also use the same platform and from the fore going, it is obvious that the election would be manipulated, if the present leadership is allowed to supervise the election" he observed
He also called on the NRA president to resign his membership of the board of NFA because his tenure has lapsed.
"Yabilsu was elected six years ago and his tenure has lapsed since May 30th and based on Decree 101 which empowered him to be on the Board of NFA I believe it is not proper of him to continue to perpetuate himself in that office " he said.
