Two more killed in UI cult attack
By Sola Shittu,
reporter, Ibadan
Two more bodies of victims of cult-related
attacks at the University of Ibadan (UI) have been recovered, bringing the
death toll in the bloody incident which occurred over the weekend to five.
Already, three students were killed on
Saturday in a bloody clash between the Eye and the Axe Confraternities in an
incident which eyewitnesses said started around 10 a.m. and lasted till 1 a.m. the following day,
leading to sporadic gun battle between the two rival cult groups.
One of the two new bodies was said to have
been near the Agric Department on the campus while the other one was found
outside the campus premises in a rented apartment. Although police have
intensified patrol on the campus as students resume for the new academic
session, there are fears among students that secret cult groups from other
campuses in the country are already on the campus for fresh attacks.
A victim, who was said to have been
attacked at the Student’s Union Building, was said to have been beaten to
pulp before he was shot in the heart and his body deposited at Oba Dam.
Tension is already mounting on the campus
as there are fears that the incident might affect the new session.
